Reading

This week for reading we have been retelling our favourite part of a book we have read this year. We were able to choose the way in which we presented it. Some people used puppets, others photostory and some people made a video. Check out Nerys, Georgia and cameraman Zara retelling their favourite part from Roald Dahl's book Matilda...

Black feels like standing right under a gaint thunder cloud.
Black is the colour of the all blacks.

Colour Poems

Orange
Orange is the sunset that you see on a warm summers evening.
Orange can heat you up and make you feel alive and firey hot!
Juicy oranges drip down your chin and make you sticky and wet.
People splashing and lashing around in a crystal, clear lake.
Firey smoke whistling out of a bubbling, spitting volcano.
Orange is a colour of many words.

Yellow is the colour of boiling sand where scorpions live.

Megans Black Colour poem.

Black
is the colour of a haunted Halloween night,
As crows call they sound like wicked witches cackling in the wind.

Ninas Saltwater Crocodile poem

c amouflaging in the water waiting for their predators to pass by
removing the leaves and grass when the babies start chirping
on top of the water you cant see but the mother is hiding
crocodlies can be really dangerous sometimes
on the river bank a crocodile lays her eggs
dangerous predators are really easy to catch with a crocodile
if it is warm in the mound it will be mostly males if it is cold it will be mostly females
life is a big job for a crocodile
eggs can crack open very easy with there egg tooth

Personal Writing

Our aim this week is to try and connect with our reader when we are writing and to try and get a connection or reponse from them through our descriptions. Read some of these fabulous pieces of writing about our most hated or loved food. Tell us how they make you react...

I don't like peas. They're gross. They're horrible. They're just yuck.
Usually I play with them. I squeeze them so hard their guts go flying out. Well... it's not really their guts but it tatses like it. Once it hit my cousin in the face. We just laughed. I also think that they look like snot balls or beetle tummies or just plain mush. Peas are absolutely disgusting.

I love it. Just simply, love it how my mum towers the cheese on top of my spaghetti bolonaise. It gurgles down my throat when I swallow it. I shovel it into my mouth all the time. My mum always tells me to make sure my plate is clean. After 5 minutes it is all gone. My mum says "Stop slurping that down your throat!"
My family are pigs!

By Ashlee

Besketty bobanase (Spaghetti Bolognaise) is the best taste with cheese mountains on top then it melts into the meat as I slurp the pasta into my mouth. Besketty, besketty I love that besketty taste. Do you too?

Tomatoes, yuck!

I never ever ever ever eat tomatoes. Tomatoes are horrible, discusting, poisonous red balls. I will never eat tomatoes. Do not give me tomatoes because I always throw the tomatoes out the window.

Science

Last Friday Rhys brought in a bottle of diet coke and a packet of mentos for his science experiment. Watch this video to see what happens!

Do you know how this happens?

Adam's explanation

How the speedy greedy works
We invented speedy greedy to help kids get to school faster.
There are boosters on the side of each shoe .To start the boosters you press the button on the side of the booster.
There are wheels that come out of the bottom of the shoes .To make the wheels come out press the button on the boosters.
There’s a break on the outside heel on each shoe. There’s a wire coming out connected to the break it’s got a grabber on it.
It makes walking safer and fun.mostley for teen ages or over.easy to start.
By Adam

Megan's shoe explanation

How the coolest shoes work

We have invented heaps of the coolest shoes to make walking to school more fun, safe and easier.

I’ve added a MP3 to make walking to school more fun. There is one MP3 on each shoe in the lace. When you tie up your laces the MP3 will turns on, but when you untie your lace theMP3 turns off.

I’ve also added a booster so we can be much faster on the way. The booster is on the heal of the shoe and when you touch the booster frame the booster turns on/off.

The coolest shoes help everyone be faster and funnier for everyone!

More Amazing Recounts...

Zara and Texas have written great recounts about out school triathlon. We especially liked the way they have used personal voice so the reader knows exactly how they are feeling.
Zara's Recount...

On Tuesday I competed in the Triathlon /Duathlon. Here I am waiting for the year 4 girls to start the swimming part of the Triathlon. One part of me was nervous and the other part of me excited. Finally we were up, suddenly my nerves vanished and my excitement was at full strength. I hopped in the pool and shivered. I decided to do backstroke. The starting blocks went and I was off! I zoomed to the middle of the pool but at that moment I was smacked in the face by a hand. I stood up and tears filled my eyes (it really hurt). I panicked and knew I would never win. Then I started up again and kept going, I was a bit proud of myself. I got out of the pool, my togs were dripping wet and I flicked my goggles off my face as I jogged to the gate. Next I grabbed my bike and rode. My feet hurt because my pedals were sharp and pointy. I got round a corner and past someone and …WOW that was quick I was already at the transition area for the run! The teachers took my bike and I started the run. As I was running my friend cheered me on. Just as I felt I would never finish, I did! I jogged to the winner’s table and finished. I felt so glad to finish, it was like a dream come true.

Texas' Recount...

Team Tauhara’s Triathlon
On Tuesday, Team Tauhara competed in the triathlon. When I got into the pool I was extremely nervous but as I started swimming I felt confident. As soon as I came up for air all I heard was “Go Texas”, I know other people were cheering for their friends but ‘Go Texas” was the loudest cheer. As one of my hands touched the other side of the pool, I ran for the ladder, got out of the pool and started to zoom. I was excited. When I reached the court I passed someone – that felt good! As soon as one of my feet touched the bottom field I started sprinting, legs pumping, my heart was nearly beating out of my chest but that did not stop me from trying to win. As I went down the chute I was relieved that I had come second, I was not first but it is better than coming last. It was the best triathlon ever.

Calligrams

Check out our cool calligrams that we created on Friday. A calligram is when the word LOOKS like what it SAYS. We think we did a pretty good job...

Tyler's Recount

My Triathlon and Duathlon

On Tuesday it was Team Tauhara’s triathlon.
First we swam. Bang went the wood, we were off. I tried to zoom but someone grabbed my leg and pulled.
Soon I got out of the pool.
I zoomed to my bike and I puffed a lot.
It was pretty hard because I went the wrong way. I skidded and kept going. Soon I zoomed to the end of the bike. I jumped off my bike and started running. I ran to the finish, my friend tied me.
I said my house colour.
We got a chocolate bar.
I got my towel and went shivering back to class.
It was the best day.

Writing Recounts

We have been writing recounts. These are the things we need to included in a recount. Read our writing below to see if we have included everything...

IronKidz

On Sunday the 28th of February, I did the Ironkidz for 2010. It was on the way into town.
I was in the cold lake first to participate in the 8 year old girls. The whistle went and I glided across the lake in about 3 minutes. Then there was more! I had to sprint to get my bike. I wiped all the sand off my feet with my towel and slipped my shoes on. Then I zoomed off along the road. It only took me about 2 minutes and 30 seconds to do that, but then there was still a run to do. I quickly gave my bike to a marshall and very tiredly wizzed off through the run and through the shoot. I got my medal and was glad it was over. It was awesome!

By Megan

On Sunday we did the Taupo Ironkidz. In our groups we dived into the lake and swam to the other side. When we got out we had to run across the sand to the transition area to get our bikes. Next I rode my bike with my helmet on my head through town and back to the transition area. I took my helmet off and got off my bike ready for the run. Then I started the run, I ran around the corner and around the flag. Iwas coming towards the finish line and then finally I had finished! I was very proud.

Drumming

Yesterday a drummer, named Dylan Elise, came to our school and he showed us on his drums that he had 4 different cowbells. The teachers had to stand up and dance, they looked really funny! He told us that his Dad taught him how to play the drums and he played all sorts of music like rock, funky music and also he played a cool rhythm with one drum. I reckon it was really cool.
